Quoting Franklin D. Roosevelt, September 19th for Western Mexico “ will go down in infamy.” On the same date in 1985, 2017, and now in 2022, this area has been hit with sizable earthquakes. There is no scientific explanation why this has happened on the same date and is written off as a coincidence. In fact, there was a practice drill that happened earlier in the day. which may have confused some residents when the siren went off a second time that day for the real earthquake. The siren gave the people a two minute warning, which was enough to limit the casualties.
The earthquake was in Michoacán state near the Pacific Coast. It was quite sizable, measured at a 7.5. Buildings and offices were damaged. However only two people died. One died from a ceiling falling in a department store and another in a mall. The power went out, affecting 1.2 million people. There were several hospitals that were damaged. In comparison to the earthquakes in the past, the number of lives lost was much less. In 1985, thousands were killed and in 2017, 350 people were killed. Although no place wants an earthquake. Considering the sizable decrease in lives lost, this may make three times a charm. WTH
