Paisley Schultz, a kidnapped six year old was found after being taken from her legal guardians on July 13, 2019.. Paisley was given to the legal guardians and taken from her parents. As far as the reason for Paisley being taken from her parents, legally that cannot be shared. Even the sheriff‘s office that eventually found Paisley does not know why Paisley was taken from her birth parents.
Paisley‘s grandfather owns a house in Saugerties, NY. The local police have visited the home a number of times, but their search was limited, since there was no viable proof that the girl was there, a warrant was not issued. Finally, a tip led to a warrant being issued and as the house was being searched a basement staircase looked somewhat strange. The stairs were taken apart, and then small legs appeared and Paisley and her mother were uncovered from a wet, cold hiding spot.
Both parents and the Schultz grandfather were arrested. They were charged with interfering with first degree custody, a felony and endangering the welfare of a child. Paisley was checked out medically and was sent back to her legal guardians. There is a protection order to keep the non custodial parents away from Paisley. During Paisley‘s time with her parents, she missed out on attending school.
The fact that a tip needed to be given in order to thoroughly check out a home where a believed kidnapped child was held for two years, and the parents are protected from why their child was taken from them, I say WTH, laws need to change.
