Deep in the Gunung Leuser National Park on the island of Sumatra, a new observation was made. Rakus, a 35 year old orangutan, had a wound on his face. What amazed the scientists who followed Rakus is that he was seen healing his wound. The orangutan took chewed leaves that have medicinal properties and placed it upon his face.
This has been the first time that a wild animal has been seen healing themselves. The plant used is akar kuning or yellow root. Southeast Asia people use this same plant to treat malaria, diabetes, and other ailments. Research has shown that the yellow root is inherently anti Inflammatory and anti bacterial. Within a month’s time Rakus‘ injury was gone and scientists were left in awe. Which led them to say WTH.
