During this spring New York housing workers were doing maintenance outside a bedroom window in South Jamaica, Queens. It was the apartment of Marilyn McMichael, a 54-year-old. The maintenance workers were shocked when they spotted the woman’s skeleton in her bed. The last communication with McMichael’s was in June of 2020. McMichael’s had emotional issues and was asking her relatives to take her to the hospital. She didn’t seem sick, so they told her that hospitals would not take her at that point. These relatives continued to call and knock on her door, but no response. This behavior did not seem unusual from the relative’s perspective.
On January 26, 2022, the family filed a missing persons report. The family met the police byMcMichael’s building. They informed the family that she hadn’t paid rent in a year. That should have caused some concern for the New York Housing Authority, but no one checked. The police tried a master key, and it didn’t work, and the issue remained unresolved, until the workers. saw the skeleton in the window this April 26. It is believed that McMichael’s may have died as early as August of 2020. Sad it took two years to find McMichael, even though she was in her own apartment. To her family, the police, the administration of NYCHA, WTH.
Fly or Die
As two men were flying over the lovely coast of Florida, suddenly the fun activity in the single engine Cesna 208 turned into an exercise of survival. The pilot had a medical emergency and no longer could pilot the plane. The only choice the passenger with no flying experience had was to act himself. He was able to radio air traffic control and was hoping for some guidance from them. The air traffic controller asked the man about his location, and he just said the screen is black, so no GPS. I am on the Florida coast. The controller told the man to follow the coast either north or south. He was able to follow the directions and was located by the controller. He was near Boca Raton and was now asked to keep the wings level, push the controls forward and descend at a very slow rate. Amazingly, the man who never piloted a plane made the landing and managed to save himself, his incapacitated friend, and the plane, by landing the plane safely. Wow! WTH
Mountain Lion Gets Schooled
Early this month at Pescadero High School in San Mateo County, California got a surprise visit.A 6-to-8-month mountain lion somehow got into the school. Fortunately, it was discovered before the students arrived. The mountain lion was hiding under a desk in one of the classrooms. The custodian was the person that initially came across the animal and he locked it in the room. He contacted the San Mateo Sheriff’s Department, and they came and tranquilized the baby. It was assumed to be orphaned and taken to the Oakland Zoo.Anyone who has been around a school knows one thing, if you want something done, ask the custodian. The mountain lion certainly learned that lesson. WTH
A Bride Drugged Guests at her Wedding
A wedding that took place in Longwood, Florida became a very memorable affair. The bride Danya Shea Svoboda and her caterer Joycelyn Bryant spiced up the food, unbeknownst to the guests with cannabis. People thinking, they were having a high old time, were. The result was probably not what the bride had imagined. One guest felt so out of it, she went to lay down her car and texted herself a message in case someone found her nonresponsive.
The bride’s actions did not evoke the chill mood she wanted to set. Instead, a number of guests needed to go to the hospital and were found to be drugged with cannabis. The policwere called and took in the foods to be tested. Since Florida is not a state that has made marijuana legal, the bride and caterer were facing felony charges. I bet many of my readers have never experienced a wedding like this, WTH.
Craig's List Find had Unknown Value
There have been many stories about people that bought something from a flea market, online site, or antique store, where the person pays practically nothing and ends up with a valuable item. This is what happened to Vicky Umodu from California when she searched Craigslist. She found a set of two sofas with a matching chair for free. This wasn’t even the valuable item that this article is about. It is not that unusual that people will give away items on Craigslist, just to get rid of them. This furniture was from the seller’s relative, and they just were unloading it.
Once Umodu got the furniture settled in the house, she’d noticed something was tucked away in one of the cushions. What she found was several envelopes with cash in it. The amount was a staggering $36,000. Many people would have been thrilled with the find and kept the money. However, Vicky did what very few people would do and returned the money to the seller. The seller had no idea about the sofa’s content, because the furniture came from a relative that had passed. As a reward Vicky was given $2200. This act of honesty is so rare,. Why? WTH
The Day the German Shepherd got into a Gorilla Enclosure
Not only do humans have WTH moments, but I dare say so do animals. At the San Diego Zoo a German Shepherd found himself in a hairy situation. He got into the gorilla’s enclosure. Once in there the two animals were sizing each other up, no doubt the canine might have realized he was out of his league
The families that were watching this tenuous scene were trying to engage the dog, to move it away from the gorilla. Zoo staff promptly moved the gorilla and the officers from the San Diego Humane society got the dog out. The dog who the officers named Mighty Joe Young was taken to be examined. Besides some fleas, ticks and the lack of vaccines Mighty Joe survived his adventure at the zoo.
One Day an Opossum Walked into a Bar
At Temkin’s Bar in Greenpoint Brooklyn an opossum came in and terrified the city slickers of NYC. Many probably could not identify what the animal was, but no one was about to be brave enough to capture it. At this same time Sara Fulton who is from Alaska was outside the bar when the critter went inside. Sara and her friend did not know what the animal they just saw was. Without any hesitation Sara went into the bar, grabbed the opossum by the scruff of its neck, brought the animal outside and let it go. The usually tough New Yorkers were amazed by Sara’s feat. She became the hero of the night and was rewarded with patron’s buying her drinks. When the opossum got out of the bar, people heard the animal shouting WTH.
